The company emerged from a timber trading house founded in 1950 and, during the last15 years, turned into a specialist for high-quality solid wood products. Two branches are of special significance: solid wood planks and edge-glued panels. Berthold understands itself as a supplier of the timber trade and distributes its products through the specialised trade. Most of Berthold's products are manufactured in own factories. The Berthold Group includes a factory each for edge-glued panels and solid wood planks as well as a hardwood sawmill.
More details below...
The factory for solid wood planks is located close to Cologne and produces roughly 400 000 square meters of solid wood planks from various high-quality hardwood species per year. Production has to comply with strict quality standards, regarding moisture content, exact fitting, grading and health. The surface finishing line allows to apply water lacquer, natural oil or hardwax oil on the planks.
The sawmill is one of the largest and most modern hardwood sawmills in Europe. It is located in Austria, close to Deutschlandsberg. Annually, the mill processes 20.000 solid cubic meters oak, 10.000 solid cubic meters beech and 5.000 solid cubic meters ash and other hardwood species. After kiln-drying, the sawnwood is cut to size (thickness, length and width). The main purpose of the sawmill is to supply the rawmaterial for the BHW. Besides, the sawmill produces beech sawnwood for the European and the Asian markets. www.ehp.at
The factory produces edge-glued panels with continuous and finger-jointed lamellas from 15 different hardwood species. It is located southeast of Warsaw, in Dubiecko. Part of the panels are processed on the basis of CNC, and count with a surface finishing. The annual production volume is 10.000 cubic meters. www.berthold-polska.pl
